A Non Technical Overview of the ADAAG

This publication is intended to communicate the content of the ADA Accessibilitiy Guidelines for Buildings and Facilities. The scoping requirements of the ADA Accessibility Guidelines, applicable advisory infomation contained in the appendix to the Guidelines, certain technical requirements, and pertinent supplementary information from the ATBCB commentary are combined and presented in the format of the ADAAG Technical Specifications (Sections 4.1 through 4.35 and 5 through 9). The technical requrements are indentified but not spelled out in full. "Non-technical" means cross-reference to other sections and interpretation of other criteria are not necessary in order to understand the ADA Accessibility Guidelines for Buildings and Facilities.
The requirements, as written, are for newly designed and newly constructed building and facilities. When applicable, modified requirements for additions and alterations to existing buildings and facilities or for alterations to a qualified historic building or facility are noted.
